When one of your recordings is played on radio, on television, in a public place or on a webradio, a payment is due. It is not streaming income and it is not publishing: it is attached to the **recording**, and it exists even if you did not write the song.

## It splits in two

That payment is divided at source, and the two halves go to different places.

- The **producer share** goes to whoever owns the recording. In almost every case that is you: your distribution contract leaves you the owner of your masters.
- The **performer share** goes to whoever plays or sings on it, and is paid to that person directly.

We only ask for the first one.

## What we do with the producer share

If you authorise us, we register your recordings and collect that share for you: through [SCPP](https://www.scpp.fr) in France, and through our collection partner Rights'Up in the rest of the world.

You receive **100% of the net sums** paid through to us. We take no commission on neighbouring rights. The societies' and Rights'Up's own collection costs are deducted upstream and are not ours to set.

## The performer share is yours to claim

We cannot collect it for you, and nobody can register in your place. If you are the lead artist on your recordings, register directly with [ADAMI](https://www.adami.fr). It is free, it is done online, and you will be asked for your identity, your bank details and the list of recordings you play or sing on.

The sums are **retroactive over several years**, so registering late beats not registering at all. If you have musicians playing on your tracks, point them to [SPEDIDAM](https://www.spedidam.fr): their share exists too and nobody will claim it for them.

## Answering the authorisation

The first time you sign in after this was introduced, you are asked once, per artist. There are three answers and all three let you carry on:

- **I authorise this** - we register that artist's recordings.
- **I decline** - we do not. Nothing else changes: not your distribution, not what you are paid.
- **Later** - we ask again in a couple of weeks.

If you have several artist names, you answer for each one on the same screen, in one go.

## Changing your mind, and finding it again

While an answer is still outstanding you will see a reminder at the top of the app and a dot next to **Artist profile**. You can open the question at any time from [your neighbouring rights](https://artists.fatstep.com/neighbouring-rights), or from the **Neighbouring rights** card on your artist profile.

A decision is never final. Withdrawing takes effect once the societies concerned have recorded it, which can take up to sixty days.

## How much, and when

Honestly: it is slow and it starts small. Societies distribute one to three years behind, and the amounts depend mostly on radio and public performance rather than on streaming. For music heard mainly online it stays modest for a long time. The value is that registrations are **retroactive**, so what is filed today goes after what was owed yesterday.
